Independent NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle racer "F@ST" Andie Rawlings is doing it her way
Media interviews with the determined, independent drag racer available during and after Route 66 NHRA Nationals, May 30-June 2, 2019, Chicago, IL
Andie Rawlings, a mother of four, is often seen around the pits at NHRA events. Most may mistake her for a passionate race fan, but in reality, she's a well-known and rising force in NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle drag racing who's driven to reach the podium by doing things her own way.
Now entering just her third year in Pro Stock, "F@ST" Andie Rawlings continues to take an unconventional approach to her young career. Her husband, Chad, is chief of her two-person pit crew. Innovator George Babor of BPM hand-builds the motors for her Suzuki GSXR. Race-by-race, they are learning lessons and succeeding by trial.
And if this approach isn't unorthodox enough for pro racing, there's something else. Rawlings' Team F@ST remains a rare independent—successfully competing in the NHRA big leagues, and largely self-funded.
As with any challenge Rawlings encounters, she's chasing her dream at 180 mph with unrelenting determination, optimism and persistence. In fact, in her first season, she was a finalist in the Road to the Future Award given to the top rookie competitor in the entire NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Now she's seeking to learn more and finish stronger in every race.
Team F@ST's major partner for 2019, Osborn, has a strong connection into the sport. The company is a leading manufacturer of surface treatment and finishing solutions – and maker of tools used by many motorcycle and automotive builders, including numerous race teams. From the executive team to their employees worldwide, the company is passionate about drag racing and the motorsport industry. Osborn has supported venues and events ranging from Lucas Oil Raceway to Harley Davidson's famous "Mama Tried Motorcycle Show".
When the Osborn team first met with the Rawlings team in 2018, they were helping to address an engineering need for an engine stand. They were immediately drawn to Andie's story and tenacity and decided to offer support to Team F@ST's NHRA campaign.
"Andie's competitiveness and aspirations reflect our growing company's spirit and embodies our 'Finish. First.' core beliefs", says Justin Sieb, Osborn spokesperson.
For her part, Rawlings is grateful to have an industry partner like Osborn behind her efforts and recognizes a deeper connection than the company's name emblazoned on her machine and racing leathers. "George Babor uses Osborn tools when he builds our motors", she notes. "So when I race, there's more than just their name riding with me. Their slogan, 'Finish. First.' is something I'm working hard to live up to very soon."
With Rawlings' determination, improving results and growing experience, no one is counting her out.
